¶ The Premise ¶

“Point, Line, Plane” – Wassily Kandisky

“ The geometric dot is an invisible being. Therefore it must be defined as immaterial. In a material perspective, the dot can be compared to the zero.

But in this zero reside different “human” features. In our conception, this zero – the geometric dot – evokes the absolute briefness, in other words the biggest retention, however it speaks.

wassily kandinski

Therefore, the geometric dot is, in our conception, the last and only union between silence and words.

This is why the geometric dot found its material form in first place, in writing – it belongs to language and means silence.”

¶ Connected Identity ¶
A Branding project for Sony

Image

Connected Identity is an interactive logotype system based in dots created by the Tomato studio, for Sony.
Participants were invited to input a word into the system via an interactive kiosk. The word was then transformed into a 1.5 second 3D animation which was inserted onto the end of Sony Tv Spots in Japan. Each advert was therefore unique and contained an element of surprise and suspense.

All the end title sequences for the tv campaign (over a period of 3 years) were not the same, they were similar.

“it came out of the notion that identity shouldn’t be fixed, but should be open….

Connected identity is designed to be played with, to change its behaviour in relation to external stimuli”

Jackie Littman developed a series of animated letterform experiments using dots.

“The Kixel alphabet explores the construction and deconstruction of form through a variety of animation techniques. Each animation is based on a modular unit, from paper to pixels to peppermints”.
